A sponsor has finally come to save the forgotten theatre. During the performance, he starts arguing with the director and fires him. He then decides to take his place. This decision is supported by the omnipotent Head of the Culture Department, but on one condition: the new director must organize a pompous premiere, mine the theatre, invite all artists and critics, and then blow up the entire theatre. This is because, in the Head’s opinion, people creating art and culture are degenerated. During the third part of the performance, actors will actually plant bombs throughout the theatre. Will they explode? … The artistic Group Ad Spectatores Pod Wezwaniem Calderona (Under the Invocation of Calderon) was founded in 1997 and first had the controversial name “HGW.” Today it is comprised of theatre students, graduates, and hotheads. Currently, Ad Spectatores is the biggest private theatre in Wroclaw. In our performances, we break the illusion of the fourth wall, which is the classical eye of the stage. We put action amidst the audience to surround and pierce them with it. The term “Ad Spectatores,” in word-for-word translation, means ”to spectator.” Our aim is to create fictional worlds, where audiences can forget, at least for a while, about the real world. |
